A tragic car crash in Soreng District has left two retired police officers in critical condition. The accident happened on January 31 at Khorongbotey Golai, Sawaligaon, when their car lost control and fell into a deep gorge.

The victims, Hari Das Rai and Gopal Prasad Chhetri, both from Jorethang and former officers of the Sikkim Police, were traveling in an Alto 800 (SK04 2022) from Gelling to Jorethang when the accident occurred. Witnesses reported that the car was speeding before it went off the road.

Local residents and emergency teams quickly arrived at the scene and took the injured officers to CHC Jorethang. As their conditions deteriorated, Rai was moved to Namchi District Hospital, while Chhetri, who suffered spinal injuries, severe head trauma, and paralysis in his lower body, was transferred to STNM Hospital in Gangtok and later to Neotia Getwell Hospital in Siliguri.

The accident has deeply affected the entire Sikkimese community and the police force, with many anxiously awaiting news about the officers’ recovery.
