Gangtok, March 25 : The Press Club of Sikkim (PCS) executive committee called on Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya at Raj Bhawan here on Saturday.The PCS delegation led by its president Shekhar Khawas offered khadas and expressed their warm welcome to Acharya as the Governor of Sikkim.

At the outset, Khawas along with PCS general secretary Dilli Ram Dulal briefed the Governor on regular activities of the PCS including its annual awards.
During the interaction, the Governor assured support from his side to the activities of the PCS. He shared that Sikkim is blessed with abundant natural beauty, cultural richness and biodiversity.
He called upon the PCS to take initiatives that the enormous potential of Sikkim in field of tourism, hospitality and organic farming is promoted through media at national and international levels.
On this note, the Governor suggested that a national-level media engagement at Gangtok is explored by the PCS to achieve wider visibility for Sikkim and the unique attractions here.
The Governor expressed that encouragement should be given by the PCS for more participation of girls in the field of journalism through awards and other engagements.
On behalf of PCS, Khawas thanked the Governor for his suggestions and assurances. He added that PCS has been planning to host a national-level media conclave and it would be taken up in the direction as suggested by the Governor.
The PCS delegation also apprised the Governor that the Gangtok Doordarshan Kendra does not have a daily news segment catering exclusively for Sikkim though the centre was set up several years ago.
On this, the Governor assured to take up the matter with the concerned authorities.
