According to information from INSACOG, a variant of Covid known as XBB.1.16 has been discovered in 610 cases throughout the country. This particular variant could be responsible for the recent increase in Covid cases. The cases have been detected in 11 different states and Union Territories.
INSACOG data shows that Maharashtra and Gujarat have recorded the largest number of Covid cases caused by the XBB.1.16 variant, with 164 cases in each state. Telangana and Karnataka followed with 93 and 86 cases, respectively.
The two positive samples that first identified the XBB 1.16 variant were detected in January.
According to the latest Health Ministry data on Monday, India reported 1,805 new cases of coronavirus, and the number of active cases has gone beyond 10,000 after 134 days.
