Sikkim records its highest daily surge in COVID-19 cases on start of a year, with 23 new cases reported in the last 24 hours across all districts. Out of 165 tests conducted, 23 cases were confirmed, taking the total active cases to 42. Additionally, 2 patients have recovered in the past 24 hours, pushing the positivity rate to 13.9%. Total confirmed cases in the state stands 44390, total deaths 500 , total tests done 401168 since Covid 19 outbreak
This sudden spike in cases over the past three weeks has raised concerned. The Health and Family Welfare Department has issued a health advisory urging citizens to follow preventive measures:

- Always wear a face mask
- Maintain hand hygiene by frequently washing hands
- Cover your nose and mouth while sneezing or coughing
- Avoid overcrowded and poorly ventilated places
- If experiencing symptoms, isolate yourself and get tested
- Maintain a minimum distance of 6 feet in public places
