
A mild earthquake with a magnitude of 3.0 struck the region between Gangtok and Pakyong in the early hours of Tuesday, according to the National Center for Seismology (NCS), Government of India. The tremor occurred at approximately 12:35 AM, with its epicenter located at coordinates 27.27°N, 88.63°E.
The quake originated at a shallow depth of 5 kilometers, with its effects felt across a span of 20-30 kilometers from the epicenter. No immediate reports of damage or casualties have been received, as the tremor was relatively low in intensity.
Residents in parts of Gangtok and Pakyong reported feeling slight vibrations, but there was no panic.
The NCS continues to monitor seismic activity in the region, which is part of an active tectonic zone prone to occasional earthquakes. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
