Pakyong, 30 January : Once again, Singtam’s experienced a fire incident around 9:30 PM Monday, as reported by local sources. The fire originated from a shop in Mandi Bazar, Singtam, and quickly spread, resulting in the complete destruction of two wooden houses. The official assessment of the extent of the damage is yet to be determined, but fortunately, there were no reported human casualties.
It’s worth recalling that a similar incident occurred in Lall Bazar in 2020 at the exact location where two wooden houses were completely ravaged by fire.
According to Deputy Chief Fire Officer Matthew Rai, the station received a call around 10 PM. Fire tenders from nearby stations in Rangpo and NHPC promptly arrived, and additional support was immediately summoned from Gangtok.
Firefighters, along with personnel from the Army, Police, Forest Team, NGOs, and local residents, joined forces to completely extinguish the fire by 12:30 AM.
Singtam has experienced another fire incident, marking the second occurrence within a span of three years. Just last October, the devastating Teesta Flood left a lasting impact on the minds of the residents, and they have been in the process of recovering from the trauma caused by the flood. Unfortunately, this recent fire incident has once again brought fear and anxiety to the forefront of their thoughts.
