Gangtok, March 14: Director General of Police Akshay Sachdeva has instructed all district police units in Sikkim to take swift and strict action against complaints about hoarding LPG cylinders, creating artificial shortages, overcharging by porters, and illegally diverting domestic gas cylinders to hotels and restaurants.
In a message sent to Superintendents of Police, Sub-Divisional Police Officers, and Station House Officers, the DGP noted that authorities have received many complaints from various parts of the state regarding irregularities in LPG cylinder distribution.
Sachdeva clarified that there is no real shortage of LPG in the state. He stated that some individuals are allegedly trying to create a fake scarcity, which could mislead the public and harm the government’s reputation.
To tackle this issue, the DGP has instructed police officials at all levels to start field inspections right away and closely monitor the distribution process. Police teams must conduct checking drives and take strict legal action against anyone found hoarding cylinders, diverting domestic LPG for commercial use, or overcharging customers.
Additionally, district Superintendents of Police are advised to use local media to issue clear warnings to anyone trying to manipulate LPG supplies or engage in unfair practices.
The directive calls for immediate action. Deputy Inspectors General, along with the Inspector General of Law and Order, must oversee and ensure strict enforcement of these instructions throughout the state.
