Gyalshing, Aug 02 : In a recent ruling, a Gyalshing District court sentenced Jay Narayan Mondal, also known as Joy, to 20 years in prison for the aggravated sexual assault of a minor. Mondal, from Uttar Dinajpur, West Bengal, was convicted of multiple offenses under the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the POCSO Act, and the Juvenile Justice Act.

The case, which was filed as Dentam PS FIR No. 03/2023 on April 15, 2023, concluded with a judgment on July 31, 2025. The court handed down the following sentences and fines:

20 years of rigorous imprisonment and a ₹10,000 fine under IPC Section 376(3).
20 years of imprisonment and a ₹10,000 fine under POCSO Act Section 4(2).
2 years of rigorous imprisonment and a ₹10,000 fine under Juvenile Justice Act Section 77.
1 year of imprisonment and a ₹3,000 fine under IPC Section 201.

The police department commended PI Sagar Subba for his meticulous investigation, recommending him for a reward. Gyalshing District Superintendent of Police, Tshering Sherpa, praised Subba’s work, emphasizing that diligent efforts like his are vital for securing justice, especially in cases involving children.
