Gangtok, 22 Feb : In a significant anti-narcotics operation, the team from Sadar Police Station conducted a late-night raid at a rented house in Lingding and recovered over 100 grams of suspected brown sugar. Four individuals were arrested during this operation.
Police sources said the raid started after getting specific intelligence about illegal drug activities at the location. The operation was carried out under the direct supervision of the Station House Officer (SHO) of Sadar Police Station to ensure proper procedures were followed.
The search took place in the presence of Sub-Divisional Magistrate Roshan Subba, independent witnesses, and the landlord of the rented property.
During the raid, officers caught four individuals identified as:
1. Sunny Rai, also known as Limbay, who is said to be a repeat offender
2. Mrs. Heena Rai, Sunny Rai’s wife
3. Subash Tamang
4. Diwas Darjee
A detailed search of the house revealed a transparent plastic packet containing about 100.03 grams of a substance thought to be brown sugar. The contraband was seized according to legal procedures.
Police also took a Wagon-R with registration number SK01T8008, along with its ignition key and related documents. Investigators believe the vehicle may have been used to transport and distribute the seized substance.
A case has been filed under the relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Authorities have begun a thorough investigation to find the source of the narcotics and to identify any broader network linked to the case.
Further inquiries are ongoing, and officials have suggested that more arrests could happen as the investigation continues.
