
Gangtok, Nov 21 : The National Press Day, observed annually on November 16 to recognise the crucial role of media in safeguarding democracy, will be celebrated in Gangtok on November 25 this year. The event, originally scheduled earlier, was postponed due to unforeseen circumstances.
The state-level programme will take place at Manan Kendra, where Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, who also oversees the Information and Public Relations Department, will attend as the chief guest.
As part of the annual observance, the state government will confer awards to journalists for their outstanding contribution to responsible and ethical journalism. A total of five awards will be presented in recognition of excellence, integrity, and commitment to press freedom.
The awardees for 2025 are:
- Kashiraj Pradhan Lifetime Journalism Award (Biennial): Shri Khagendramani Pradhan
- Y. N. Bhandari Best Journalism Award (Yearly): Shri Amber Gurung
- Chief Minister Award for Reporting on Climate Change: Shri Lalit Dahal
- Chief Minister Award for Reporting on Women Issues: Smt. Bhawani Thami
- Chief Minister Award for Reporting on Human Rights: Shri Hem Subba
The Information and Public Relations Department has extended heartfelt congratulations to all the award recipients for their valuable service to the media fraternity and society.
