Gangtok, May 12: On the auspicious occasion of Buddha Purnima, Chief Minister of Sikkim extended heartfelt greetings to the people of the state and to Buddhist communities celebrating the sacred festival across the globe.
In his message, the Chief Minister highlighted the spiritual and cultural significance of Buddha Purnima—also known as Vesak or Buddha Jayanti—which commemorates the birth, enlightenment, and Nirvana of Lord Gautama Buddha. He noted that Lord Buddha’s life, from his early days as Prince Siddhartha Gautama to his transformation into a symbol of peace and wisdom, continues to inspire humanity through his teachings of non-violence, compassion, and universal brotherhood.
Describing the full-moon day as one of profound spiritual importance, the Chief Minister acknowledged the devout observance of the festival across India, particularly in Sikkim. He appreciated the sincere efforts of devotees who mark the day with prayers, fasting, meditation, and acts of service to others.
The Chief Minister called upon citizens to rededicate themselves to the timeless values taught by Lord Buddha. “Let us walk the noble path shown by Lord Buddha and strive to build a society grounded in kindness and mutual respect,” he stated, adding that the occasion should serve as a reminder to foster unity, inner peace, and social harmony.
He concluded his message by wishing everyone a joyous and peaceful Buddha Purnima.
