A 35-year-old woman from Mangan district in North Sikkim has reportedly fallen prey to a fraudulent online job racket, resulting in a loss of ₹6 lakh. The incident took place between April 8 and April 15, 2025, when the victim encountered a lucrative work-from-home offer on Facebook.

Believing the opportunity to be legitimate, the woman engaged with the alleged employers, who convinced her to make multiple transactions with the assurance of high returns. Trusting their repeated claims, she transferred a total sum of ₹6,00,000 over the course of a few days.

Her suspicion arose when promised returns never materialized. Realizing she had been duped, the woman immediately approached law enforcement. A formal complaint was registered at Sadar Police Station, and a case has been filed under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023, Sections 318(3), 319(2), and 111(2)(b).

Authorities have initiated a full-scale investigation to trace the fraudsters behind the scam. Police have also urged the public to remain cautious while engaging with online job postings, especially those promising unusually high income.
