Known as “Nepali Geet ke Guru Gurung,” he has become a symbol of cultural pride and resilience for Sikkim.
Having spent his life committed to reviving the Bhutia and Lepcha traditions, Gurung has represented Sikkim on both national and international platforms. His performances at renowned events such as the Sanjari Concert and IGNCA, along with appearances in the USA, UK, and Kenya, have showcased the rich cultural heritage of Sikkim to global audiences.
In addition to being a regular performer on radio and television, Gurung has earned acclaim as an accomplished bhajan singer, credited with over 30 devotional songs. His dedication to mentoring young artists has ensured the continuity of the art form. He has released numerous folk and contemporary audio cassettes that remain widely popular across Sikkim.
