Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) Party President and former Chief Minister, Pawan Chamling, recently held a press conference where he made several accusations against the ruling SKM Government. Chamling expressed his disappointment with the current political scenario and raised concerns about the violence that occurred in Singtam on 8 April, as well as a resolution that was passed in the assembly on 10 April.
During the press conference, Chamling alleged that the present SKM Government has manipulated and distorted old laws, which has caused a huge setback for the people of Sikkim. He stated that this became apparent after the Supreme Court’s January 2023 judgment on the Old Settlers of Sikkim (AOSS) and the amendment in the Lok Sabha Financial Bill 2023 regarding the definition of ‘Sikkimese’. Chamling believes that these actions by the government have not been transparent and are detrimental to the generation of Sikkimese.
