Joint Action Council (JAC) today reiterated their stand that “Sikkimese” definition should not be diluted and it should be maintained as per the historic tripartite agreement of May 8 1973 between the erstwhile Chogyal, Government of India and political parties of Sikkim.
They have also announced a rally on April 8 at Singtam regarding the concerns over expansion of ‘Sikkimese’ definition in Section 10 (26AAA) of Income Tax Act 1961 under Finance Bill 2023 passed by the Lok Sabha.
JAC’s Keshav Sapkota stated that 8th May tripartite agreement has “clearly defines who are the Sikkimese and this should be kept intact, any other definition is unacceptable and invalid”.
JAC would be compelled to start an indefinite movement on the roads from April 11, he added.
On April 8 a rally would be held at Singtam is to demanding preservation of historical and Constitutional definition of Sikkimese should be kept intact during the special Assembly session on April 10.
They further demanded that four resolutions adopted during the all-party meeting organized by JAC should be considered by the session Assembly session.
