Pakyong, 27 March : Twitter under Elon Musk confronts yet another obstacle as its source code Leaks Online. The code that was leaked comprises of Twitter’s platform and internal tools that are proprietary. It is uncertain whether the leaked code also contains the source code utilized for tweet recommendations.
Twitter has encountered a new obstacle as court documents reveal that portions of its source code were released online without authorization. In response to this breach, Twitter issued a subpoena to GitHub, a software collaboration platform, as the user who shared the snippets of source code did so without permission and went by the username “FreeSpeechEnthusiast.” As per a CNBC report, GitHub provided some information regarding the leaked code when it was requested by authorities concerned with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA). The leaked code consists of “proprietary source code for Twitter’s platform and internal tools,” but it is uncertain whether the source code responsible for suggesting tweets is also part of the leak.
According to Twitter’s legal representative, the subpoena was issued to uncover the identity of the individual who released the code, and GitHub has already acted on Twitter’s request by deleting the content on the same day. Twitter has not provided any comments yet.
This incident is the latest setback for Twitter, which has encountered several challenges since Elon Musk acquired the company for $44 billion in the previous year. Musk has stated in the past that he intends to make the tweet recommendation code open-source by March 31 and that it could be initially “extremely embarrassing” in terms of transparency.
A recent report indicates that Twitter’s valuation is currently at around $20 billion, which is almost half of the amount that Elon Musk paid to acquire the platform. In response, Musk has been implementing measures to increase revenue, such as introducing a Twitter Blue subscription service and providing advertisers with additional advantages.
