New Delhi, 27 March : As per a recent report from The Times, the Dalai Lama has selected an American-born Mongolian boy as the 10th Khalkha Jetsun Dhampa Rinpoche, the third highest position in the Tibetan Buddhist hierarchy.
]The report mentions that the Buddhist leader was spotted alongside the eight-year-old boy during a ceremony that took place on March 8 in Dharamshala, where he currently resides in exile.
Although the announcement of the ceremony was met with both enthusiasm and trepidation, given the potential for China’s disapproval, the news has been widely circulated.
It is worth noting that China has maintained its stance of only recognizing Buddhist leaders who have been appointed by its own government. Therefore, the decision to appoint the young Mongolian boy as the third highest lama may result in China taking offense. As per the report, the boy is the grandson of a former Mongolian parliamentarian and the child of a university professor. Furthermore, he has a twin brother.
