Sakshi Pradhan, a resident of Darjeeling, has become the first commercial pilot from the region, making her community proud. She was born on May 10, 2000, and is the only child of Mr. Rukesh Mani Pradhan and Mrs. Bandana Mukhiya. Sakshi began her primary education at Bethany School in Darjeeling and later studied science subjects at Delhi Public School Siliguri. She passed her exams with flying colors and had a strong desire to become a skilled pilot.
In 2019, Sakshi was selected for the Indigo Cadet Pilot Training Program and successfully obtained her commercial pilot license through Skyborne Aviation Limited in New Delhi. She then underwent further training in Arizona, USA, and Pantanagar, Uttarakhand, India, under the DGCAA of the Government of India.
After receiving her Indian commercial aircraft license, Sakshi underwent A-320 aircraft typing training at Etihad Airways in Abu Dhabi, UAE. She is currently working as an A-320 Junior First Officer at Indigo Airlines and was honored at a grand graduation ceremony held at the company’s headquarters in Gurugram, New Delhi, on March 15, 2023.
Sakshi’s unwavering determination, hard work, and courage have made her an inspiration to the entire student and youth community. Despite the physical, intellectual, and financial challenges of becoming a pilot, Sakshi has blazed a trail for her community and entered a new field with great success.
