A newborn baby was reported missing from North Bengal Medical College and Hospital, along with an unidentified woman who had offered to help the baby’s mother, Ranjita Singh, during her admission.

Ranjita Singh, a 24-year-old woman from Khoribari under Darjeeling district, had delivered a baby boy at a local rural hospital three days prior to the incident. She was later referred to the North Bengal Medical College and Hospital due to postpartum haemorrhage.

The incident occurred during visiting hours when the unidentified woman, who had apparently helped Ranjita during her admission, disappeared along with the newborn.

The hospital has formed a committee to investigate the matter, and the police are currently searching for the woman. However, the CCTV cameras in the gynaecology and obstetrics department were not functional at the time of the incident.
