It is a well-known fact that knowledge is never wasted, and the good deeds of individuals who strive for the betterment of society through education are never in vain. Two exemplary personalities from Chumbong Budang, located under Chakung GPU Soreng District, have made outstanding contributions in the field of education.
Dil Kumar Rai, the son of a late land donor for Chumbong Government School in the 1960s, recently donated over an acre of land to Chumbong Jr High School. This donation was made in response to the increased student enrollment and the need for more space for sports activities. He had a positive outlook and believed that his contribution would bring goodwill to the village and serve as an asset for the educational upliftment of village children. He shared that during his time, there were barely five to six students in the school.
On the other hand, Sher Bdr Kharka, who is believed to have been a student of former Chief Minister Late Nar Bahadur Bhandari, was the first teacher of Chumbong Government School. He shared his experiences from 1968, stating that there was no infrastructure available at the time, and he used to carry maize grains to teach children in a small hut at Chumbong. Later, during the Late LD Kazi government in 1971, limited stationery and slate-chalk were provided for teaching. During his time, he was paid a meager salary.
These two individuals are real heroes who have made outstanding contributions to the education sector in their village. Their efforts have made a significant impact on the lives of many students, and their contributions will always be remembered and appreciated.
