Siliguri, 28 March : After the sand mafia and some miscreants set fire to the police vehicle on Thursday night last week, there was tension prevailing near Ghoshpukur and the Chenga River in Phansidewa under Darjeeling District.
According to reports, the incident occurred while a team of policemen launched a campaign in response to a tip during the sand mafia’s quarrying spree. Miscreants set fire to the police vehicle when they tried to stop the smuggling. Miscreants after torching police vehicle fled from the spot. The aforementioned incident has resulted in one injury says in report. The Additional Superintendent of Police, SDPO, and other Darjeeling District Police officers also rushed to spot when they heard about the incident. Police immediately started intensive search operation of the miscreants in which they detained two persons.
On interrogation duo revealed abetment of third person who was absconding after the crime. In the case of Monday the Phansidewa Police successfully nabbed that third person who was then produced before Magistrate for the remand. Arrested person is identified as Ajit Tappu.
