Gangtok, 23 June :Scores of supporters from various political parties including Bharati Sharma the former working president of Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM), Rup Raj Rai the former minister who was holding the post of advisor of SKM party joined the ruling Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF). They were duly inducted into the SDF fold by party supremo cum Sikkim CM Pawan Chamling during a programme held today at the SDF headquarters at Indira Bypass. In politics no one is enemy; it’s just the ideological differences that distinguish one party from another, said Chamling addressing the gathering. The CM urged his party members to forget the past and rather collectively work for uplift of the state and its people in entirety. He also alleged opposition parties in Sikkim of being devoid of any developmental agenda and desperately indulging in spreading canards against the ruling SDF party. Claiming that the state government has done much to safeguard the interest of womenfolk in Sikkim, Chamling cited the ‘succession act’ implemented by the SDF government which entitles daughters to inherit their father’s property. Even Sikkimese women married to men from other states are now entitled for government jobs here which was never so during the tenure of previous governments. It is only the SDF government that has ensured women empowerment and accordingly safeguarded their interest, claimed Chamling.
