15 Mar, Gangtok (IPR) : Three days Bharat Utsav was kicked off here at M.G. Marg today. The Minster for Cultural Affairs and Heritage, Shri G.M. Gurung inaugurated the three days fest which was organized by the Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre (EZCC), Ministry of Culture, Government of India in collaboration with Cultural Affairs and Heritage Department, Government of Sikkim.
Cultural Affairs and Heritage Department Minister, Shri G.M. Gurung said, “this festival will encourage young artists of ethnic communities and others in the field of Art and Culture. We need to preserve our rich folk cultures of India.
Three days festival will have folk dances from different states of India.
The EZCC is one of the seven cultural centers set up by the Government of India to integrate the nation with cultural festivals.
Different cultural troops from 10 different states presented their folk and traditional dance during inaugural function.
During this fest, India’s great cultural diversity (dance form) like; Purulia Chhan, Bihu, Kalbelia and Chakri, Badhai, Sambalpuri, Rauf, Ghoomer, Bhangra & Jindua, Siddhi Dhamal and Lambari will be showcased. Many of these dances have been entrusted in the UNESCO Representative list of the intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
Participant states will narrate its folk tales, story of heroism in form of dances and songs.
Besides, 21 diverse indigenous folk dance form of Sikkim also be shown in the festival.
The programme was attended by Cultural Affairs and Heritage Department Secretary, Smt. Yashoda Bhandari, representatives of EZCC and officials from Culture department.
EZCC representatives expressed their gratitude to the Cultural Affairs and Heritage Department for their cooperation and support.
