11 Mar, Gangtok: A Thanks Giving function was organized at local Resort near Ranipool by singer and director Chewang Dorjee Bhutia in honour and recognition of the efforts and hardwork of the entire team of ‘Denjong Ki Lushay’ music video album.
‘Denjong Ki Lushay’ is a collection of 8 folk songs of the Bhutia community produced by Rajya Sabha MP Hissey Lachungpa and music video produced by Minister D.D. Bhutia. The songs have been sung by Chewang Dorjee Bhutia, Kunzang Rapten, Tenzing Ongmu, Ongchen Dorjee Bhutia, Sonam Doma Bhutia and others.
The album was released by Chief Minister Pawan Chamling on December 12, 2017.
The Thanks Giving function was attended by MP Hissey Lachungpa, Minister for Energy & Power and Labour Department D.D. Bhutia, Gangtok Municipal Corporation (GMC) Chairman Ashish Rai, CAO Tourism Tsheten Dorjee, officials from the Power Department, the entire team of the music album, artists from Swar Sikkim and other invitees.
Speaking on the occasion, MP Hissey Lachungpa hailed the effort of the ‘Denjong Ki Lushay’ team and highlighted the need of such initiatives for the preservation and documentation of the Bhutia language, culture and tradition.
Expressing his concerns on the fading away of many indigenous languages, Lachungpa asserted that many would probably go into extinction if nothing is done to save the situation.
“The young people who are supposed to champion the preservation of the indigenous languages are mostly not in tune with their native dialects. English has become the primary language now-a-days which is proving detrimental for the indigenous language,” he lamented.
He advocated the need of incorporating traditional folk art and music with the latest trends so as to make it more appealing to the current generation in hopes of keeping it alive.
The MP also hailed CM Pawan Chamling for his relentless efforts in protecting and developing the ethnic communities of Sikkim and called upon the people to refrain from making any negative remarks about other communities and stand united for the benefit of the state and its entire population.
The MP also donated Rs. 1 lakh to the Denjong Ki Lushay team for costumes.
Minister D.D. Bhutia also called upon the youngsters to work towards protecting and preserving one’s custom, tradition and language.
The guests felicitated the Denjong Ki Lushay team by offering them khadas and a complimentary copy each of the music album.
