Three day long Mahotsav kick starts in Namchi
21 Oct, Namchi (IPR) : The Chief Minister Mr. Pawan Chamling inaugurated the three day long Namchi Mahotsav celebration 2016 organized by Namchi Mahotsav Celebration Committee under the guidance of South Sikkim Tourism Development Society (SSTDS) at Namchi Central Park. Present during the celebration were SLA Speaker Mr. K. N.Rai, Cabinet Ministers, MLA’s, executive members of the Namchi Mahotsav Celebration Committee and other dignitaries.
Addressing, the gathering the Chief Minister extended his warm greetings to the public of Namchi on the occasion of Namchi Mahotsav. The Chief Minister spoke about the significance of Mahotsav and informed that such kind of festival should be celebrated consistently in order to preserve our tradition and culture. He further stated that since Namchi will now be covered under the Smart City project, the town will see holistic development in all spheres. He urged the stakeholders and the public of Namchi to work towards promoting and developing a conservative and sustainable development in the South District Headquarters. Mr. Chamling further appealed the public of Namchi to extend their co-operation and to work collectively alongside the government department to further support in developing Namchi as one of the model smart cities.
Throwing light, on the pilgrimage potential of Namchi the Chief Minister hailed Samdruptse, Chaar Dham and Sai Mandir as state of the art structures in the country that has given Namchi a national and international visibility. Similarly, through the emergence of popular tourist sites and commercial hubs in Namchi the Chief Minister maintained that the mushrooming of hotels and pilgrimage centres in and around Namchi has made the town commercially viable thus benefitting the local populace in terms of generating employment therefore making them self-reliant. The CM also updated that the commencement of Passenger Ropeway, another asset that has been recently been operational in Namchi, has revamped the basic civic amenities in sync with the tourist and pilgrim footfall. Exhorting how the present State Government has always laid primary focus on the education in the state, he apprised the students of the state about the inception of pro-student schemes and initiatives in Sikkim in order to facilitate better delivery of Education System in Sikkim. Likewise, the CM underlined the importance of skill based education and urged them to be imbibe a competitive nature thus doing away with the notion of certificate based education. Speaking on the ongoing tribal reservation seat for Limboo and Tamang community, the Chief Minister updated that the State Government is unwaveringly pursuing the matter with the Central Government in-order to confer the community with the tribal status. He also added that the State Government is committed in protecting the seats reserved for the Bhutia Lepcha and other left out communities in order to provide equal justice for the communities existing in Sikkim.
The CM was also felicitated by NMC on behalf of the public of Namchi, business community and Namchi Mahotsav Celebration Committee. The program also saw the release of book on Namchi Mahotsav 2016 through the CM. At, the onset of the celebration the Chief Minister along with the dignitaries also visited various stalls and inspected the tour operated stalls.
The inaugural event saw a host of cultural song and dance presentations which formed the other highlights of the day.
