Pollution by Madhya Bharati causes widespread health hazard!!
21 Nov, Rangpo/Majhitar : Madhya Bharati Power project and their sister concern company Moshvaraya Infrastructure Limited situated at Duga, East Sikkim has again started playing with the lives of more than 10000 people residing at Majhitar and Mining area by polluting the main source of drinking water of Khani Khola by their overflowed cement and construction debris works.
It may be recalled that this is not the first time that this company has come in media jaw, as earlier also the company was warned for intrigued pollution matter related to public health concern in same place.
As public of Majhitar, East Sikkim had already faced these type of pollution many months back and time to time also, and same problem been placed before the officials of the Madhya Bharati Power project, still then company has been over ruling the notices of administration. Nowadays, days so many childrens of Majhitar area is infected with serious stomach and skin problems and they were admitted in the nearby hospital due to polluted water of Khani Khola source. Besides farmers of Khani Khola area whose cash crops production was 50% reduced by the polluted water in which they were seriously affected in running the daily livelihood and they are eligible for the compensation too.
Previously one meeting with the public was organized at Majhitar where Madhya Bharati officials consisting of General Manager M.K. Som, Deputy General Manager D.K. Singh and HR Manager Nirmal Sapkota assured the public of the affected villages on solving the issues permanently infront of SDM Rangpo, but still they have not taken matter seriously.
Today joint representatives for this pollution matter was carried out to the pollution site by SDM Rangpo Jigme Wangchuk Bhutia, President Rangpo Nagar Panchayat Smt Maya Cintury with her members of Councillors along with affected public of Majhitar, and found that there was so much of overflow of polluted cemented water being mixed into the drinking water source, and while questioning by the representatives to the official incharge of Madhya Bharati A.K. Tripathi (AE) he again started to make same old excuses on excavating the overflowed cemented muds and waters, and told the representatives that General Manager flew away after hearing that affected public are coming.
Now affected public of Majhitar and Mining had decided to submit First Information Report at Rangpo Police Station against the head of the State Pollution Control Board for their negligence in giving certification to the power project , Madhya Bharati Officials consisting of General Manager M.K. Som, Deputy General Manager D.K. Singh, HR Manager Nirmal Sapkota, Senior Manager Rajeev Kausik and Assistant Engineer A.K. Tripathi on Monday.
As message received while writing this story, that District Collectorate was informed about this matter by SDM Rangpo and he will be taking strict action on issuing the stay order for the further notice to the Madhya Bharati.
