Day 03 of Namchi Mahotsav 2016
23 Oct, Namchi (IPR) :The third and the concluding day of the ongoing Namchi Mahotsav 2016 had the State Tourism Minister Mr. Ugen T. Gyasto as the Chief Guest and SLA Speaker Mr. K. N. Rai as the Guest of Honor. The Mahotsav organized by South District Tourism Development Society, South District Administration and Sikkim Tourism Development Corporation had the presence of Chairman’s, members of Namchi Municipal Council and the Organising Committee, HOD’s and general public.
It may be mentioned here that Namchi Mahotsav is an annual event organized at South District Headquarters, Namchi. This year there was a total number of 107 stalls comprising of Flower Exhibition, Food and Trade Fair which were set up at Namchi Bazaar premises.
Addressing, the gathering Chief Guest Mr. Ugen T. Gyasto expressed his deep contentment on the successful organization of Namchi Mahotsav. Mr. Gyasto spoke in brief regarding the significance of celebrating Namchi Mahotsav which acts as a platform in providing an opportunity to display along with preserving the diverse culture, tradition and artefacts of the various communities of the state. The Chief Guest also underlined various awards and accolades that the state has received till date in the field of tourism including the recent declaration of Khangchendzonga National Park being named as India’s first ‘Mixed World Heritage Site’ by UNESCO. Reiterating, about Namchi being selected in the list of Smart City Mission Mr. Gyasto updated that this selection will attract an enormous number of tourist visiting the state. The Chief Guest also informed that collaborative efforts from the general public and tourism stakeholder are essential in order to further elevate and sustain the tourism industry in Sikkim.
At, the onset of the Mahotsav celebration the Chief Guest along with the dignitaries did a round of the stalls. During the course of the program the Namchi Mahotsav organizing committee felicitated Mr. Mingma Dorjee Lepcha for his success during a recent dance competition and also for promoting the state domestically. On, the inauguration day of Namchi Mahotsav 2016 the Chief Minister Mr. Pawan Chamling had unveiled the Chrysanthemum and Marigold competition cum flower show. The first three position of the Chrysanthemum Flower Competition were bagged by Abir Singh Rai, Daisy Land Nursery and Green Hill Nursery respectively. Likewise, the best display of Chrysanthemum Flower was won by Munal Nursery from Saka, Upper Boomtar. The concluding day also witnessed an assortment of cultural dance and song presentations from various culture groups followed by an evening entertainment program.
