10 Mar,Pakyong : A most awaited moment was witnessed today at Pakyong Airport today during noon the Spicejet 78 seater Bombardier Q400 aircraft made a successful landing.
The event was witnessed by state authority headed by Chief Secretary Sh AK Srivastav , Tourism Secretary, DC East ,SDM Pakyong Sub Division, Sikkim Police DG ,SP East ,Pakyong Airport Director ,General Manager, Special Branch ADGP and others.
On the other hand hand delegates from DGCA arrived from Kolkata and New Delhi in Spicejet flight.
Both sides delegates stayed for more than half an hour discussing and surveying the runway along with technical staff.
Later after a short stay the aircraft took off to Kolkata.
Pakyong, March 10: (IPR) Spicejet Q400 Bombardier made historic landing at Pakyong airport today. The 78 seater aircraft landed at Pakyong airport at 11:55 am . Team from DGCA , AAI Board and Spicejet Operation came in the aircraft for their first trail landing at Pakyong. The Chief Minister Shri Pawan Chamling expressed his happiness on the momentous occasion and congratulated the people of Sikkim.
The Chief Secretary Shri A.K.Shrivastava while congratulating the people for this historic moment said that this was a great day which the Sikkimese people had been waiting for since the past 18 years. “After multiple discussions with the Planning Commission and DONER and regardless of the apprehensions, we have been successful in witnessing such a historic moment for the state.” He also said that though the Bhoomi Pujan was done in 2007, work came to halt due to various issues which delayed construction. By 2014, the airport had started taking shape and by 2015 work resumed with steady plan for completion. At the end he thanked the AAI, DONER, Planning Commission, DGCA for making this project a success and for making the dreams of Sikkimese people of having an airport in the state come true.
Integrated structures comprising of ATC tower-cum-fire station, two sophisticated CFT, terminal buildings for passengers, high intensity runway lights, car parking for more than 50 cars are some of the features of the airport.
Commissioner-cum-Secretary Tourism Department, Shri Puneet Kansal said that this was a very significant day for the state and a huge leap in the tourism sector. The Secretary also said that this was a big day as DGCA clearance is very crucial for obtaining license of the airport. The natural beauty along with the modern amenities like the airport will boost tourism along with all round development in the state, he said.
