Namchi: On the occasion of 63rd Republic Day Namchi remembered the struggle and sacrifices of patriots and freedom fighters.
In a function organised at Community Hall here in the district head quarter of South District, area MLA and the Chief Guest for the occasion Mr. Binod Kumar Rai hoisted the National Flag.
Addressing the gathering on the occasion Mr. Rai paid homage to the freedom fighters and remembered their unparalled contribution in leading Inida to Republic.

Dr. B.R Ambedkar the man responsible for drafting the constitution of this great nation was also remembered on the occasion.
Mr. Rai also highlighted how the present government led by the Chief Minister Mr. Pawan Chamling has worked tirelessly to make Sikkim a model state in the country and how the state has become examplary in many fields in the nation.

Further he added that plans, policies and schemes of the government can only be succcessful if the officers of the government department impliment them earnestly, and urged them to work with passion to usher the state towards the path of prosperity.

Earlier D.C (South) welcomed the gathering with his welcome address and read out the Rupublic Day message of the Governor where as SDM/Namchi Ms. Gloria Namchu read out the message of the Chief Minister.

The first half of the celebration came to an end with a vote of thanks which was proposed by SDM(Hq) Mr. P. Yonzon.

In the second half of the programme which was organised at Central Park downtown Namchi, the Chief Guest Mr. Binod Kumar Rai flagged off a marathon ( Run for the Unity of the Country) jointly organised by District Administrative Centre Namchi, Sports and Youth Affairs Department Government of Sikkim and Nehru Yuva Kendra, Namchi Chapter.
The marathon which was for Under 14 boys and girls ( 10 Kms) and 15 to 35 years Male ( 21 Kms) and female (15Kms) , the winners of this race were awarded with cash prize and certificated by the Chief Guest.
In the under 14 girls section Reena Harijan bagged the 1st position and cash prize of Rs 5000/- Deepika Kari came second and bagged a cash prize of Rs 3000/- and Renuka Sharma stood 3rd and got Rs 2000/- for her effort.

In the Under 14 boys, Debesh Budathoki won the marathon and Rahul Chettri and Tika Ram Nirola came 2nd and 3rd respectively, the winner were awared with cash prize of Rs 5000/-, Rs 3000/- and Rs 2000/- respectively.

In the 15 to 35yrs section (female) Mangali Tamang won the race and bagged a cash prize of Rs 10,000/- Anita Dhakal and Dolma Sherpa came 2nd and 3rd respectively and bagged a cash prize of Rs 7,000/- and Rs 5000/- respectively for their effort.
In the same age category for male Nima Tshering Tamang won the marathon for the 2nd year running and took home a cash prize of Rs 15,000/- while Prable Chettri and Jai Badhur Pradha came 2nd and 3rd respectively and bagged Rs10,000/- and Rs 7,000/ respectively.

During the function Chief Guest also gave away the Certificate of Appreciation sponsered by District Administrative Centre, Namchi, to the following Government Officers and their team for their commendable job done duing the aftermath of last year’s tragic September 18th quake.

Mr. R.K Yadav SDM/Namchi, Mr. P.K Rai SDM(Ravangla) Ms. Bandana Chettri Under Secretray (U.S) RMDD, Ms. Yangchen D Tamang DPO SDZP, Ms. Subha Mukhia, U.S HRDD, Mr. Milan Pradhan, D.E Buliding and Housing, Mr. B.B Subba SDPO Jorethang, B.D.O team of Temi, Yanggang, Namthang, Ravangla, Sikkip, Sumbuk.

The guests and gatherings were also entertained by a District Level Culture Competion organised by Nehru Yuva Kendra , Namchi Chapter.
Sangam Samaj group from Borong were adjudged best during the competion and won a cash prize of Rs 5,000/ which was sponsored by the Chief Guest Mr. Binod Kumar Rai.
