Milch Cow Distribution in West Sikkim

27 Nov,Rangpo: A day long programme on milch cow distribution was conducted by AH, LF&VS Dep’t. West District at Gvezing .The programme was presided over by Miss Palmu Bhutia, Panchayat President of GPU Singyang Chumbung & attended by Purnamati Limbu Panchayat member of Upper Naku Ward, Babu Ram Tamang of 6-no Vasmay ward under Gelling Samsing GPU along with five numbers of beneficiaries from Gelling &eight Numbers from Singyang Chumbung. From the Department a team headed by Dr D.S Tewari associated by DR S.P Bhutia Deputy Director, Dr Seema Rai V.O of Soreng & Suresh Sharma ,Prabin Rai, Thapa &Loknath from Gyalshing District Veterinary Hospital. .

The objective behind the programme was to distribute milch cows under Dairy mission, at dry areas & to the marginal farmers on the basis of their key activities based enterprise & background of dairy farming.wherin to enable Swarozgari to cross financial constrain with in one year by each beneficiary & to earn at least Rs 4000/per month, which in turn may support them to generate regular income for sustainable livelihood as envisage by Honorable Chief Minister Govt. of Sikkim.Beneficaries were also identified on activity based cluster approach to enable them to form co-operative in future for group approach, as look upon to marketing & other boulevard. The programme started with the welcome address of Dr S.P Bhutia, wherein he welcomes all the beneficiaries & pacnchyats. After this Dr. D.S Tewari, Joint Director of West District, Deptt.deliberated on the management practices tips of milching cows in village level. He also highlighted on the govt. stress on current phase of self help group movement in the villages of Sikkim calls for pro-active state policy support, devolution of powers to the Panchayat institutions for playing effective role in livelihood promotion, strengthening the village level rural development administration & encouragement of innovation in microenterprise development. In this context presence of Panchayat of each ward on the occasion was to fix the responsibility to look after cows were distributed.the progress made by each beneficiary after getting milching cow. They were also allowed to express their dissatisfaction on the distributed cows by the Department on the spot and even to reject the animal. All the thirteen cows were Jersey cross breed & seeing the area of beneficiaries they were procured from the suitable areas in altitude & managementel context he in formed. After this Dr. Seema V.O Soreng also highlighted on the need proper care of milching animals for producing milk as observed during procurement. Farmers should be very much concentrated on feeding watering & grooming animal all the time. One should not depend upon extra labor but they should work themselves to gain profit. She also informed farmer to regularly communicate veterinarian & paraveterinarian & also should report on day to day progress & problem. After this Chief Guest Palmu Bhutia also expressed gratitude to the Department in availing productive Cows for their farmers. After this on lottery system
