Sanitation facilities in schools in urgent need of attention : Suren Mohora
24 Nov, Khamdong: Despite claims of achieving the target of total sanitation, there is an urgent need to address the need of sanitation facilities in many schools in the state. Many schools have been found to have either inadequate or unused facilities of sanitation forcing the students to seek rudimentary methods.
This was informed by field facilitator Shri Suren Mohora while addressing the technical session on total sanitation during the second day of public information campaign at Khamdong, East Sikkim. He further urged the school management to ensure that school toilets are made functional keeping in view the need of girl students. Adding that sanitation is closely linked to poverty and its vicious circle, he informed that a single household in a locality without proper sanitary latrine would be more than enough to unleash health havoc.
Similarly, Assistant Engineer, Department of Power and Energy, Shri Bhanu Sharma informed that with the commissioning of 14 Kms of 11 KV 3 Phase transmission line and control switching station at Makha, power transmission and its quality would improve in the area. Addressing the technical session on rural electrification, he informed that revised estimate to cover the left out habitations according to latest census has been submitted to the Govt. of India. While making an appeal to the people to use electricity frugally, he also urged the people to install meters for their electricity connections. (PIB)
