MANGAN, November, 18: National Commission for Minorities (NCM), Spalzes Angmo, Member, Government of India coordinated by NCM, Jt. Secretary, DM(N), TN Kazi, Welfare Officer(N), PW Lepcha and Former Chairman, Pintso Lepcha of Dzongu make visit to North Sikkim on two days programme from 17th to 18th Nov. 2011.
On 17th the team visits Lingdem hot spring & Passingdang, Upper Dzongu and interacted with earthquake affected people and Panchayts. There Mrs.Angmo suggested to develop parking & enenities for exploring tourism. She also suggesed to develop Teesta river training work as the entire Teesta river belt area are weak and delicate and river training work will protect the areas in future.
On Nov.18th, the team inspected Rikzing Choeling Gumpa(Ringhem Gumpa) and met with lamas & Acharya. Mrs.Angmo informed that, Culture Department had schemes from 10 to 30 lakhs for development & preservation of old ornaments and valuable items which can be preserved & displayed by developing a type of museum. After that a formal meeting was held at hotel Tamarind with Department of HRDD, ICDS, Horticulture officers & representatives of Teesta Urja Ltd. Power project developer. In the meet the Power project developer were asked what they have done for the earthquake affected people of minorities. In reply they clarified that, after earthquake they provided 5crore in Chief Minister relief fund, two choppers for evacuting affected people, there NGO, Bhavishya Bharat Foundation(BBF) provided free medicines and drinking water, tents etc.
Mrs.Angmo shown dissatisfaction as people are disapointed with relief works. As instead of funding the relief grants in Chief Minister relief fund the amount should have been directly utilized for construction of bamboo house for more than 60 affected families those house had been totatally damaged and staying in temporary tents. So, the Power project developers had to work in human resource development, preserving culture, agriculture, eco system and other long term schemes from HR fund. And they also suggested District Collecter and officers to relocate and restoration of damage, MGNREGA scheme and work can be implemented in these sectors as restoration work will be couered and local area people will get job too.
DM(N) was informed to carry up re-accessment of earthquake affected areas and people for early recover and development. Then the NMC Members leaved for Gangtok in afternoon after taking brief accessment of damages.
