Valedictory function of 150 years of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India
16 Nov,Gangtok/PIB:To commemorate the glorious 150 years of Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG), Accountant General (Audit), Sikkim organised a function today at Chintan Bhavan at Gangtok . The function marked the completion of celebration of year-long programme.
Addressing the function as the Chief Guest, Minister C B Karki Minister for Rural management & Development Department, Government of Sikkim congratulated the officers and staff on the occasion and said transparency and accountability, fairness and equity, efficiency and effectiveness, respect of the rule of law, and high standards of ethical behavior are the important ingredients of the good governance. This can be ensured through independent checking of entire spending and functioning by some one who is not part of the system directly, yet intricately linked with the system. This is where CAG audit is useful and important, to provide this assurance to the public, through the legislature, that the public moneys have been spent judiciously, to obtain the best value for money, he remarked. While lauding the good work done so far by the officers and staff of Accountant General, he appealed to all to continue the good work to enhance happiness index of the people of State.
The programme commenced with the welcome and key note address by Accountant General, Shri Dinesh Bhargav. Shri Bhargav gave a brief outline of the Department and recounted its rich and varied history. He apprised the august gathering on genesis of the department and its relevance in the changed modern day environment. Additional Chief Secretary, Government of Sikkim, Smt R Ongmu while congratulating the officers and staff of the CAG organisation for completion of 150 years opined that the CAG institution has played a key role in facilitating good governance in the country. She reminded them of the great responsibilities they shoulder and appealed to work hard to live upto the expectation of the framers of the constitution. Shri B K Jha and Shri T Bhowmik gave the officers perspective of the department.
The programme was attended by a large number of distinguished personalities, Secretaries of the various Departments of the State Government, Heads of offices of the Central Government offices of Gangtok and officers and staff of Accountant General, Sikkim. The function concluded with vote of thanks by Ms. Eti Shukla, Deputy Accountant General. (PIB)
