Sikkim media whipped by partiality policy of state IPR Dept.
8 Nov,Gangtok: Sikkim RTI forum has exposed a sensational truth which evokes breach in the People’s Right and the Freedom of Expression, it has revealed through a RTI reply from the Department of Information & Public Relation dated 1 Nov that the state government is greatly scuffling the effective local media houses in the state. The dossiers handed to the forum by the IPR reveals interim truth besieged in black & white which not just opens the plight of effective esteemed media houses like Hamro Prajashakti (Nepali Daily),Himali Darpan (Nepali) and others. Having fulfilled all the requisite formalities, criteria as per the norms these media houses are debarred availing all forms of government advertisement benefits, whereas in other hand ironically the department has shown a great extent of favouritism for handful of media houses. The dossier depicts year wise budget disbursed to the several media houses in crores where a clear discrimination could be observed as well as imagined what level of scantiness has been adopted by the concerned department.
Ranging from Daily, Weekly, Biweekly papers all the budgetary details has been procured through the RTI reply in which several queries throttles regarding the discrimination policy.
The forum has strongly condemned the IPRs ‘Tangent Policy’ to show its nepotism for pleasing these media houses who are bagging enormous advertisement benefits but the prominent Nepali Dailies are living in piousness.
The educated intellectuals, apolitical and political parties have together condemned the grafting policy of department saying that this is a direct attempt to tarnish the People’s Right & Freedom of Expression. The gruesome step like this reveals autocratic framework of the government invoking stern measures to depreciate popular people’s choices of newspapers and the truth. They have also questioned that if such grafting is done then what truth will appear before the people, though the media is referred as the 4th pillar of Democracy?
This surely is an Eye opener….people definitely should be educated. They should be more responsible and committed citizens. Govt. alone tackle such situations. Let us make our Sikkim a heaven to live in…….
Sorry, Govt. alone cannot tackle the situation. Let all of us work together to achieve our goal to peace. Thank you.
It's a point here to think, about the state govt. of Sikkim failing to manage a scanty population of mere 6+ lac people, four districts with handful of Govt. functionary. The number of Ministers and Legislative members might outnumber this figure. There is a sever lack of co-ordination between the Govt. functionaries and issues like the above pertaining to bias stature is not new. I wish the people who bifurcated the three Ethnic Tribes of Sikkim into smaller fragments would equally bother to nourish them and prove us wrong that the division was fruitful. The Govt. itself is not responsible, if yes, then in how many instances? They have an excuse for Dams, for the rising corruption, failing Govt. functionaries in almost all spheres, bad infrastructures(buildings/roads/bridges). The mass can't follow until someone shows the right path……sadly the footsteps changes the course as it climbs up the ladder…
@priya…. then why the hell do we need a useless government…lets get rid of them what u say??miss smart ass:@
