Union Minister of State for Power visits TLDP Projects of NHPC at West Bengal

6 Nov,Gangtok: The Hon’ble Union Minister of State for Power Sh. K.C.Venugopal visited Teesta Low Dam Project Stage – III ( 132 MW) at Rambi and Teesta Low Dam Project Stage – IV (160 MW) at Kalijhora in Distt. Darjeeling, West Bengal. The construction activities of both the projects are in full swing and one of the units of Teesta Low Dam Project Stage – III is slated for commissioning in March 2012. The Hon’ble Minister had an on ground assessment of the construction activities at both these projects.
Hon’ble Minister on his arrival at Bagdogra Airport was welcomed by Sh J.K.Sharma, Director (Projects), Sh Dhiman Parija, Executive Director (Region Siliguri) and other Senior Officers of NHPC Ltd. Thereafter he proceeded towards the TLDP Project Sites where he was extended a warm welcome. The Hon’ble Minister took keen interest and visited all the spots where major activities of construction are taking place. Hon’ble Minister appreciated upon NHPC’s immense contribution in the Hydroelectric Power scenario and stressed on timely completion of the projects for effective contribution to the nation.
The Hon’ble Minister also took time in between to interact with the NHPC Officials as well as people working at the site. He also planted a sapling at one of the sites confirming the Green initiative of NHPC in its projects. The visit of the Minister has reassured the commitment and importance of Hydroelectric Projects for the countries growth.
The minister later visited Rumtek monastery in Sikkim and spent the night at Gangtok. The minister will be leaving for Delhi tomorrow after completion of his official tour in Meghalaya, Assam, West Bengal & Sikkim .(PIB)
