Sikkim Tamang Youth Society Condemns Singling Rape Case

31 Oct,Rangpo : In response to the incident of rape on one of the 24 years old girl from Singling, Soreng, West Sikkim by the group of guys on the night of Bhai Tika, Sikkim Tamang Youth Society are disgusted with this type of sexual violence by the gangs and couldn’t tolerate sexual harassment and rape and domination to the women’s in the peaceful society of Sikkim.
We are disgusted, but not surprised. Singling story is not only one incident its been repeatedly going on here in Sikkim. STYS frequently hears these type of cases all over from Sikkim and condemns the same.
We demand that this has come to an end. Everyone has the right to a harassment-free places. We request Social Welfare Department to fix its broken sexual harassment policies by immediately instituting mandatory classes and awareness programme for all the Sikkimese residents about sexual harassment, by keeping the identity of sexual harassment complaints confidential, and by no longer blaming the victims of sexual violence at the state.
STYS continuously appeals all the Tamang Youths of Sikkim to concentrate on good social duties, sports and carry on with the higher level of studies which will make the community and our state proud in all forms.
