SGC comes ahead for support in distress moment for state
30 Sep,Gangtok: In this hour of catastrophe owing to the devastating earthquake on 18.09.2011, the teaching and non-teaching staffs of Sikkim Government College, Tadong have made an effort to shoulder the suffering of our fellow Sikkimese. A generous monetary contribution was made by the staff thereby raising an amount of Rs. 1,59,000.
Also, it came to our notice that several students of our college and surrounding schools whose families are affected by the earthquakes, mostly from North Sikkim, are stranded in Gangtok.
In view of all these it was decided that the collected amount would be utilized in the following manner:
I. Contribution of Rs. I, 00,000/- to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund under SBS Gangtok AC no.464 vide transaction no 45 dated 29.09.2011.
II. The rest amount to be utilized for relief of those affected students and also for other relief works. This was done by purchasing food and essential commodities on 29th Sept and disbursed on 30th Sept in the presence of Principal and staff of SGC, Tadong.
The college fraternity in its meeting held on 26.09.2011 at 3:00 PM decided to extend relief measures to the earthquake victims and affected students of the college.At the outset the house condoled the death of earthquake victims and observed one minute silence.Various modes of helping to the victims were discussed threadbare. It was eventually decided to form a Relief Committee amongst the teaching and non teaching staff of the college to facilitate rescue and relief operation in tandem with disaster management team.
The house constituted the Relief Committee comprising of the following members of the teaching/non-teaching staff.
