Sikkim Earthquake 2011,18 September

19 sep,Geyzing: Gyalshing: The major Earth quake killed four persons, injured four and more than 100 families left homeless around west district. The victims were Chandra Kala Rai (25) form Khenay Sirbong GPU, Sujal Gurung (10) from Mangalberia, Shaker Rai 25)form Darjeeling who was labour in Costal Pvt. Ltd at Reshi and Ash Bdr. Rai (62) from Kyongsa.

Pemayangtse and Tashiding monasteries have sustained major damages and 3 inches wide cracks have developed at Helipad, Pelling. Different government institutions and offices have sustained damages too. The roads connecting to District HQ, Gyalshing are blocked at different points due to the landslides. The electricity, Telephone, water pipe lines and cable service have totally been cut off. DC, West, DPO along with district officials visited different affected areas and provided immediate reliefs to the victims. Relief camps have been set up at Sardong, Lungzick, Kabirthang, Tashiding where the affected families have been shifted. The DC has directed all the concerned officials and panchayats to provide necessary help as well as quick evacuation from the damaged houses and shift to the safer places.
