16 Sep,Gangtok: Sikkim Viklang Sahayata Samiti, a voluntary organisation is oranising free plastic surgery camp for cleft lip and palate and burn cases from 16th to 22nd September 2011 at Central Referral Hospital, 5th Mile Tadong. The camp is being organized in collaboration with Smile Train India, Agra along with the support of Health Care, Human Services and Family Welfare Department, Government of Sikkim, Central Referral Hospital and NHPC Teesta Stage V.
The Minister for Human Resource Development, Mr N.K. Pradhan graced the inaugural session as the Chief Guest. In his address he said that Sikkim Viklang Sahayata Samiti is doing a tremendous job by trying to solve the problems of the physically challenged people of Sikkim and such camps will help in the benefit of the whole society whereby total free surgery will be provided for the benefit of the physically challenged. The Minister thus urged the patients to make optimum use of this free camp.
The President of Sikkim Viklang Sahayata Samiti, Ms. Droupadi Ghimiray informed that earlier screening was held in the State and surgery had to be done at the Smile Train India, Agra but from this year onwards the patients can avail of both the facilities in the state itself. So far, 150 patients have benefited from these facilities. She mentioned that 56 cleft lip palate and 25 burn patients were identified and were admitted at the Hospital from September 15. Dr Satya Saraswat, Plastic and Cosmetic Surgeon, a member of Smile Train India, Agra, and his team will be doing the surgical procedure here in the state.
Dr S. Singh, Medical Superintendent of Central Referral Hospital, in his address mentioned that this type of camp is an endeavour to provide services and facilities to needy people who are in serious need of it. He also asked the patients to come forward and avail of the same.
Mr Tempo Bhutia, Patron of Sikkim Viklang Sahayata Samiti while highlighting the objective of the Organisation said that the organization along with Sarva Siksha Abhiyan had identified these patients who will be undergoing surgery.
Dr Kumar Bhandari, Secretary Health Care, Human Services and Family Welfare and Dr Satya Saraswat also spoke on the occasion.
