11 Sep, Rangpo: University Grant Commission (UGC) has till date has sanctioned Rs 15 crore for the acquisition of campus land at Yangang.Mr Suraj Sunar in behalf of Sikkim RTI Forum has questioned regarding the precise amount sanctioned to Sikkim University for the land acquisition funded by UGC. Dr Abdul Hannan,a Central Public Information Officer of Sikkim University providing information clarified that in two instalment in April 2008 and April 2009 respectively each of Rs 7.5 crores of total Rs 15 crores was sanctioned. This amount represent 50% share of government of India for the acquisition of land and remaining amount would be borne by the state government. This amount sanctioned was a very special consideration effort of the Government of India for Sikkim University and the state of Sikkim because as per directives & norms the land for the Central University Campus needs be provide free of cost by the host state but for Sikkim center has equated a special privelage for same.
