Sikkim has excelled in implementation of MGNREGA: CB Karki

28 April, Gangtok: Minister for Rural Management and Development and Information and Public Information, Shri CB Karki has said Sikkim has excelled in implementation of MGNREGA as compared to other States of the country. He was speaking as chief guest at the inaugural session of Public Information Campaign at Ranka in East Sikkim today.
He also urged those engaged in implementing the project to work sincerely with dedication for qualitative work which would also have long term impact. Highlighting priorities of the State government, he said from providing relief to decentralisation, the government has been gradually shifting focus from long term infrastructure development to emphasis on qualitative work at present.
The Minister also said that Post Office and BSNL have failed in speedy delivery of service to the rural masses. Their poor delivery mechanism has caused in ordinate delay in payment for the job done under the MGNREGA scheme.
Informing that all programs and schemes of the union government have been implemented in letter and spirit, he further stated that in some cases, the State has even forged ahead with unexpected success in implementing welfare schemes. On the occasion he also urged the members of panchayati raj institutions and the civil society to come forward for playing greater role in making Sikkim poverty free State within the stipulated time frame.
Earlier, addressing inaugural programme, as guest of honour, Chairman of Public Account Committee and MLA Shri Menlom Lepcha highlighted various schemes and programs being implemented by the State government for enhancing skills of every individual. Appealing to the people to actively participate and ensure optimum benefit from the Public Information Campaign being held at their doorstep, he also urged to derive maximum benefit from the programme. He also urged the member of panchayati raj institution and civil society to make sure that the programs and schemes being implemented are not only satisfactory, but are amongst the best. (PIB)
