Mainam wildlife sanctuary fire could spread to Dzongu in North
15 March, Namchi: Prolong dry spell in Sikkim had caused many outbreaks of forest fires in Sikkim and South District today reported big outbreak of forest fire at top hill of Mainam Reserve Wildlife Century Sokpey South Sikkim.BO Mainam Wildlife Century Suman Basnett and RO(T) Ravangla Anup Banyainformed that the outbreak of fire was reported form Torkey Samchey busty under Sokpey which falls under Lingee Payong range. He further informed that fire might be spread yesterday night and might be spread form North District. They informed that more than 1200 hectors
of forest had been under the blaze of fire and exact area cannot be traced as fire is spreading with the gush of wind.
He further informed that with joint operation from forest and wildlife department from Ravangla, Lingmoo, Lingee, personnals from fire and Emergency Service Department from Ravangla and other placesJFM, EDC, personnel form the Disaster risk Management from Namchi and villagers and people fighting with blaze but till now fire has not been under the control.
Locals informed that fire had been spread in the local forest of Mainam Wildlife Century like Semila, Berfung, Pipley gawdra, Sokpey and Samchey forest. They further informed that if fire will not be control overnight then fire might spread to Dzongu side of North Sikkim from one side and from Upper Pyong forest from other side.
