Sikkim in 3rd National RTI Convention in Shilong
10 March,Shilong: One thousand activists, 20 workshops, 6 interactive sessions, street & stage play, Political music, Exhibitions and film shows; Shilong will have all to shake the governments dipped in corruption.
3rd National RTI convention is kicking off in Shilong from 10th March and will carry on till 12th March. The convention is being organized by National Campaign for People’s Right to Information. This year the Meghalaya Right to Information Movement (MRTIM) is playing to host the event.
Day 1 is scheduled to have street plays, musical shows and political slogans by RTI activists from different parts of the country. A Chariot of Scams “Ghotala Rath Yatra” is also being organized.
There will be welcoming address by Bah Michael N Syiem. His Excellency, Ranjit Shekhar Mooshahary will also grace the event. Justice J.S Verma, Ex chief justice of Supreme Court will speak in plenary. Sessions by James Lyngdoh, Trilochan Shastry, Usha Ramanathan, Muzzafar Bhat and Harsh Mander will be part of the convention this year.
The NCPRI has chosen to locate this Convention in Shillong so that it provides North East RTI activists a great opportunity to learn from the significant experiences of the North East in the use of the RTI.
People have gathered from all over the country and even from South Asia to attend the convention. Siakat Poddar who works in Singapore especially came to be a part of it. “I am really excited and when I heard that it is being organized here in Shilong, I decided that I will attend it”.
The Third NCPRI RTI Convention comes after 5 years of use of the RTI which has empowered people in varying degrees. This interaction will provide an important opportunity for all RTI users to share wide and rich experiences in the use of this law for varied rights of people in a democracy, and plan the way forward. This time Sikkim Youth Sonam Gyatso Sherpa is participating in the convocation , this is for the first time Sikkim is taking part in such a prestigious programme.
