
Cipla workers calls on strike, workers eagerly searches for their leaders
02 March, Rangpo: Today a strike was called on by the contractual labours working in Cipla Pvt Ltd at Kumrek. They demanded invoking a service rule and regularising their services. According to the news source Sikkim Democratic Front SDF labour cell All Sikkim Democratic Labout Front ASDLF had circulated a pamphlets and pasted a posters around the Industrial Units and Hydel Power premises one month ago depecting ultimatum of 1 month to the units demanding immediate intervention into labours demand. Having one month completed on 01 March no any leaders were observed during the strike called by the labours to support their cause. This reporter when contacted one of the worker on strike, he told that during this time their leader should have been here promptly to support unfortunately they haven’t yet reported. The worker’s suspects that now the leaders during this stage when ultimatum is over are not in mood to support their demand instead it reveals their stand for the company side or sidelining. Until the news was made no any leaders of ASDLF were seen around. The incident like this could tarnish the image of Sikkim, this could even make reputation of state in grave concern. During this meritious 17th year of SDF tenure under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr Pawan Chamling the state is scaling a great shift towards peace and developmental activities throughout the state but today’s incident may not becomes a encroachment of problems. Today’s incident has resulted in great trauma for the company since due to the strike production of life saving drugs has been hampered.
