Rs 10 lakhs worth idle Tourism Building built 4 years ago in Mamring, South Sikkim
20 Jan, Rangpo: In one hand the State owned Tourism Department assures to make Sikkim the most happening state in Tourism Development and in other side the roadmap that leads to destiny seems unpredictable looking into the reality. It’s not just one tourism infrastructure that is wailing today , there are dozens of them which are in a critical shape and size all where in this tiny Himalayan state of Sikkim. Despite, what result can be expected from present vision statement of State Tourism Corporation to make state as best Village Tourism Destination is very much evident after analysing conditions of series of loopholes and pits in existing developments?
A tourism infrastructure was built 4 years ago in Mamring in South Sikkim pegging a cost of Rs 10 Lakhs for utilising it as a rafting house. Even after 4 years the building stands still without being used single time for any useful purpose not even it was used single time for any tourism related activity. Today the empty merciful building wails crying for someone to take care of, interestingly without being used aged poor building cries now for maintenance once more but no any response is yet confirmed from any authority or caretakers. The said tourism infrastructure comes under Namthang Rateypani Constituency, Smt Tilu Gurung who’s the area MLA of said place. Few month before Area MLA and Tourism Minister Bhim Dhungel along with Tourism Officials had paid a visit to this place and assured to hand it to some local NGO’s to run for specific purpose in tourism but nothing miracle was observed after an assurance. Whereas in every public meeting the MLA doesn’t forget to mention her vision for tourism development in the constituency, every time!
