No more politics, show cause notified 31 employees granted relief – ASGEA

09 Feb, Gangtok: The All Sikkim Government Employees’ Association (ASGEA) has said that although it has sought general amnesty to all employees who were issued show cause notice and suspended for attending the Rolu Picnic on December 21, it shall not take such onus for any persons who continue their political activities despite their words given to its Chairman.
According to a press release issued by ASGEA general secretary, KC Dahal, the association shall not plead for them if the government takes any action against them according as per the norms and bond signed by the employees themselves while being appointed as a state government servant.
The ASGEA Chairman had earlier met all 31 employees who were served show cause notice and assured that the association will plead their case with the government contending that since the picnic was not a political affair the body would procure general amnesty for all. The employees were also advised to disassociate themselves from all political parties, persons and meeting and were assured sympathetic gesture in this regard.
It is also informed that the ASGEA had submitted a petition to the Chief Minister Pawan Kumar Chamling requesting general amnesty to 31 government employees who were served show-cause notice for attending the Rolu picnic. The request reads, ‘Seemingly most of them attended the picnic without any premonition that political speeches or criticism of the government was a part of the programme…… Hence the ASGEA requests the government to grant general amnesty to all these 31 employees’. ‘The Association shall not plead for any employee including these 31 persons in future if he or she have taken part or takes part in political functions, movements after the date of the said picnic’ the petition submitted to the Chief Minister mentions.
The ASGEA has also said that it is a welfare organisation and not a semi-political organisation as expected by some person.
