Eight Students of SMIT suspended

The disciplinary action committee constituted to enquire into the January 31 clash between local and non-local students of the Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology (SMIT) at Mazitar near Rangpo in East Sikkim today announced action against the students found involved in the scuffle.

Police ransacked GJBM strikers in Siliguri, Hills in tense situation

A backlash on vehicles and police erupted tonight in the Darjeeling hills after the administration used force to defuse a menacing stand-off in Siliguri between residents of the plains and young supporters of Gorkhaland.

A police jeep was set on fire in Darjeeling. In Kalimpong, a constable and a night guard were assaulted by arsonists who set fire to two government buses and a private bus.

Free coaching for poor students “only in Sikkim”: KT Gyaltsen

A month long Free Winter Coaching for Bhutia students of Class X and XII was concluded on 3rd February at Modern Secondary School. The coaching programme was initiated by Bhutia Kareb Yargay Chogpo (BKYC), a Bhutia association. Mr. K T Gyaltsen, Speaker of Sikkim Legislative Assembly was chief guest on the occasion.
