Justice Aftab J.Saika Chief Justice of Sikkim High Court shifted to Jammu and Kashmir

President Pratibha Patil has transferred Justice Anil Ramesh Dave, Chief Justice of the Andhra Pradesh High Court, to the Bombay High Court. He has been asked assume charge on or before February 15.

The collegium has recommended that Justice Nisar Ahmad Kakru of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court be promoted Chief Justice of the Andhra Pradesh High Court.

Framing charges under the Sikkim Employees Service Rules and Regulation the DOP issued a notice against the well known writer and poet Kamal Chamling alias ‘Kamrangey’ . Assam student in Manipal scuffle

The boarders at the Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology (SMIT) have been asked not to venture out of the campus following an altercation that took place between the boarders and day scholars on Sunday.

According to the institute’s sources, a student from Assam had an altercation with a hostel mate after the latter, a local, bumped into each other while walking outside the campus on Sunday.

Residents refuses to hand ancestral land to the Government, says “no at any cost”

The black and white printed copies of the notice under the mascot of official Government of Sikkim for the spot assessment was handed to the property owner of landed property which was was dispatched by the Sub Divisional Office of Pakyong. In the notice it was mentioned that the identified landed property owner should be present on 03/02/2010. The distress moved throughout the people after receiving the information copies from the government side.

Gurung lifts liquor ban in Darjeeling

Gorkha Janmukti Morcha’s liquor ban’ in Darjeeling has fizzled away in less than three months. On Sunday, GJM assistant secretary Harka Bahadur Chhetri announced that the ban would be lifted from Monday.
“I was told by our party president (Bimal Gurung) to announce lifting of the ban on sale of liquor in the hills,” said Chhetri, over phone from Kalimpong, refusing to speak on the reasons for this.

China warns Obama not to meet Dalai Lama

China said a possible meeting between U.S. President Barack Obama and the Dalai Lama would further hurt Sino-U.S. relations, and vowed to go ahead with sanctions against U.S. companies selling arms to Taiwan.

China has become increasingly assertive in opposing meetings between the Dalai Lama and foreign leaders, and a meeting between the exiled Tibetan leader and Obama would add to the litany of troubles between the world’s biggest and third biggest economies.

There was a mistake in the report “SMU strongly condemns…” in front page of this paper’s February 1 issue. In the first paragraph of the report, Himalaya Darpan was written in place of Sikkim Darpan, as SMU Vice Chancellor had said in his press conference on Saturday, January 30.
