Indian music maestro A R Rahman struck gold once again, bagging two trophies at the 52nd Grammy Awards here for his music in ”Slumdog Millionaire”. The composer, who has already won a Golden Globe and two Academy awards, registered win in both the categories he was nominated for.

Blacklist reports absolutely false: SMU

An outraged Sikkim Manipal University (SMU) has issued notices to one local and one Siliguri based Nepali language newspaper in connection with news reports suggesting that the institute has been blacklisted by Karnataka government.
Such notice has also been issued to an online news website seeking an apology or face defamation suit.
SMU Vice Chancellor Brig (Retd) SS Pabla said in a press meet today that the said report is not only absolutely false but also mischievous allegedly aimed to tarnish the image of the University at a time when the admission process for the next academic session is presently underway.

Sikkim to suggest amalgamation of EVM data into Master EVM

Sikkim is seeking to suggest the Election Commission of India (ECI) to introduce such a device which is capable of amalgamating all the data fed in the EVMs at various polling booths into a Master EVM in an individual constituency to ensure even freer and fair elections.
According to AIR Gangtok evening news broadcasted today, Joint Chief Electoral Officer CP Dhakal said that the Chief Electoral Officer Vijay Bhushan Pathak will be raising the issue at the All India Conference of Chief Electoral Officers at Jaisalmer in Rajasthan on February 4 and 5.

State BJP claims interference of Nepal elements in Sikkim

Expressing his serious objections over the news report by a Nepal based media maligning him over a ‘very localized issue pertaining to Sikkim’, State BJP president Padam Chettri has claimed that some sections of Nepal is doing its best to act as supporters of the SDF government.
A Nepal newspaper based at Jhapa, ‘Jan Adolan’ in its January 19 edition has pilloried Chettri for ‘trying to mislead the Sikkimese society with his politics and being a resident of West Bengal’. The said edition is currently being circulated in the State, said Chettri.
