Gangtok, December 21: Launching a broadside against the Chief Minister Pawan Kumar Chamling for his ‘dictatorial’ style of functioning, the dissident SDF MLA PS Tamang today alleged that there was a sense of fear and insecurity among the people of Sikkim who were afraid to even raise their grievances fearing reprisal from the instruments of power.

“An atmosphere of fear and insecurity prevails in Sikkim at present as the people discuss issues in a hushed manner otherwise they will be prosecuted by the instruments of power at the command of the Chief Minister,” he told a public meeting at Rolu near Jorethang in South Sikkim .

The prevailing fear psychosis among the general public goes against the grain of fear of expression and speech as enshrined in the constitution and ironically such a fearful scenario in an otherwise peaceful Sikkim prevails under the leadership of a ’so called’ democratic leader (Chamling), Tamang, the four-term SDF MLA, said.

Forget about the general public, the functionaries in the SDF, bureaucrats and ministers in the Chamling government were afraid to speak and put across their views for fear of being sidelined by the leader, he said.

Chamling has done no better than his predecessor Nar Bahadur Bhandari in terms of strengthening the democratic institutions and transparently in public life as an identical

political situation and autocratic rule prevailed in Sikkim , Tamang lamented

Hinting at the a possible turf war in the state politics, Tamang recalled that Chamling had raised a banner of revolt by seeking to search democratic through a candle light in the

state legislature in early 1990s and said that he will do the same taking out a torch light throughout the state to find out the elusive democracy in Sikkim .

Apparently bolstered by an impressive attendance at his first-ever public meeting in the garb of a picnic, the dissident SDF leader appealed to the people to prepare themselves to fight for a revolution for a political change in Sikkim soon.

He further said that “I will rather die than betray my people and ready to face any consequences for the people of Sikkim and ready to face bullet if any occasion arises,” adding that he will stand with the people to abolish undemocratic functioning and impositions  of the SDF.

Tamang, however, did not elaborate about his future strategies to take on the Chief Minister.

Meanwhile, the ruling party leaders refused to read too much into the salvos fired by the rebel leader and said that the leadership has no immediate plans to tackle the dissidence being led by Tamang.

Let the rebel leader make suo motu moves to walk out of the party or chart out an independent course of action to find his political moorings, the leadership will not pre-judge the situation to act against him to enable him to walk away with glory, a SDF leader said on the condition of anonymity.

if I am not mistaken, Mr. PS Tamang was the chap responsible for this fear and insecurity uptill 6 months back. I remember him to be the boss of the hit squad of SDF for the last 15 years when they ruled by physically intimidating the opposition. It is only after not making the cabinet that he is now talking. Where was he 10yrs back? Why we never heard of him doing good in the past? he has always come to the headlines for his toughs. He is the leader of the thugs who continue this reign of fear pyschosis and should be retired from Sikkims politics if we are to save ourselves from the REAL problems faced by the Sikkimese.

A stable government is necessary for development. Sikkim has witnessed it and these trends can be seen in usa as well where governments cant be toppled through mla majority like in india. As soon as a new government comes up, it cancels all the previous work being so it harmful in a way. All we need is to raise issues and work together than be hateful and self centered like golay.

All things must change….lest one good custom corrupt the world…. Everything must change however good or bad it is… That’s the only way humanity develops and progresses. Isn’t 15 years of governance over the top now? We must be ready for change if we need to progress however good or bad the change may be… That’s the way of the world.. Whatever doesnot change stagnates and that is not good for health and hygenic society… Change has brought humanity thus far and change will see us and hand over this land and people to the next generation. Yes the people should listen to what the leaders are saying. These guys r talking abut democracy because of their ignorance of what is politics about. He has been a minister due to the democratic process but now is saying chamling murdeered democracy and they will restore it. This is crap from ideologically bankrupt leaders. If any party in Sikkim is talking sense then I think that new party SNPP who at least are tying to focus on the real problems of Sikkim. Only thing is Adhikari will have to tone done his rhetoric about the madhesis. I am not saying they are correct or not but they at least have intelligent arguments which is a treat after hearing about BPL, democracy, and other hollow claims.
